I would be willing to bet part of the reason they are doing this is to curb the digital “theft” of all of their software. Which means when you stop paying that monthly fee, you will no longer have access to the software. Even though the programs are still installed on your computer in the same manner (these aren't web-apps), you are now basically “leasing” the software on a monthly basis. Like it or not, Adobe announced this year that almost all of their software is moving to a cloud-based subscription model. Honestly, I'm thinking about signing up for this.
